Opposition demands inquiry into lathicharge on teachers

Patna, Dec 18 (UNI) The Opposition today demanded an inquiry into the lathicharge on Lok Sikshak (teachers), describing it as an ''attempt of the Nitish Kumar government to gag the popular voice of masses in the state.'' A delegation representing RJD, Congress, LJP, CPI and CPI (M) met Governor R S Gavai and urged him to ensure an inquiry into the all incidents of alleged police atrocities. ''The NDA government is not fulfiling its promises and when people try to vent their anger, government tries to suppress their voice through police excesses'' the delegation complained.

Staging a dharna in protest against the police excesses and demanding granting the status of Panchayat teachers to Lok sikshaks, they also pledged to launch agitation throughout the state to protest against the rising police atrocities and government's failure to fulfil its promises.

Those who addressed the dharna were RJD's Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Congress leader Ashok Kumar, LJP leader Maheshwar Singh, CPI's Ram Naresh Pandey and CPI (M)'s Ramdeo Verma.
