Militants fire at candidate's vehicle as 'warning'

Diphu, Dec 18 (UNI) Suspected KLNLF militants today fired at the car of a Congress candidate for the coming Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council(KAAC) elections as 'a warning', asking political parties to refrain from contesting the polls.

The incident occurred in the afternoon when the supporters of Congress candidate for Phulaguri constituency were asked to dismount from their vehicle at Sibheta, 24 km from here.

The militants made the supporters line up beside the vehicle and fired at it. No one was injured in the firing.

The Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) had asked political parties to abstain from contesting the KAAC elections, slated for January, threatening armed action if the parties did not abide by its diktat.
