Justice Krishna Iyer exhorts MPs to protect ''nuclear swaraj''

Kochi, Dec 18 (UNI) Noted jurist and former Supreme Court judge V R Krishna Iyer today appealed to all Members of Parliament to oppose the proposed Indo-US nuclear deal, as it will make the country ''subservient in the nuclear field.'' In an open letter to all parliamentarians, Justice Iyer said that ''Bush cannot sign away today our sovereignty or our plenary power to use nuclear freedom in our people's interest.'' The proposed deal would make India subservient in the nuclear field and give the US dominant control over ''our nuclear swaraj,'' he claimed.

''I beseech every Member of Parliament to resist this semi-colonialism, which has great implication on our international independence. Without reference to party differences, Parliament unanimously must oppose this nuke deal, '' he added.
