Jeev soars to career-highest 37 in golf rankings

New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) Asian Tour number one Jeev Milkha Singh ended a fairytale year at an all-time high of 37th in the Official World Golf Rankings, with compatriot Jyoti Randhawa (84th) being the only other Indian in the top 100.

Jeev, who finished tied sixth in the season-ending Volvo Masters of Asia in Bangkok yesterday, was ranked 45th in the previous week's ranking.

Jeev, by virtue of finishing within the top 50, has already earned a start in all four Majors next year.

Jeev is third in the Asian rankings, behind the Korean duo of Choi Kyung-Ju (29) and Yang Yong-Eun (33).

Among his comaptriots, Indian Open champion Jyoti Randhawa hangs on to his 84th place, while last year's Volvo Masters of Asia winner Shiv Kapur (184) is the third Indian in the top 200.

Among others, seasoned Gaurav Ghei is at 229, while Arjun Atwal, who has lost his touch and PGA Tour card, is placed 260th, according to information received here.

At the top, Tiger Woods has now held the World Number One position for a total of 421 weeks and has an 11.65 average point lead over nearest rival Jim Furyk.

This week marks Woods's 505th week as a World Top 10 player and only Ernie Els (650 weeks) and Greg Norman (646 weeks) have had more weeks in the World Top 10.
