Father's rebuke leads girl to commit suicide

Rajkot, Dec 18 (UNI) Unable to bear her father's rebuke for watching television, a teenaged girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Aaji dam on the outskirts of the city.

Police said, the deceased, Poonam Kanubhai Solanki, 18, who was studying in a local school in Std XII, was scolded by her father yesterday for not devoting enough time to her studies even when the crucial board exams were fast approaching.

In a huff, Poonam left her house and took the extreme step, police said.

Her body was recovered later in the evening and was sent for post-mortem.

A suicide note was found in her schoolbag, lying at the site, from where she allegedly jumped. Police said, in the note, she wrote,''I am a burden on my father and so I am taking this step.
