EC competent enough to hold fair elections: Paswan

Allahabad, Dec 18: Chemical and Fertiliser Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has said the Election Commission was alone competent to hold free and fair Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Talking to UNI here last night, Lok Janshakti Party National President said the Election Commission (EC) has already held free and fair Assembly elections in Bihar and West Bengal and hoped that it would be able to do the same in UP too.

''I have no doubts on the ability of the Election Commission,'' he said.

Stating that in all probability, the Samajwadi Party (SP) would adopt mal-practices in the next Assembly elections he said that he was not against imposition of President's rule in the state but if it was imposed and the elections were held under President's rule then the SP would try to mould the attention of the people and to cash in the situation.

''I do not want the President's rule to unnecessarily create panic among the people,'' he said.
