Congress demands CBI inquiry into mysterious death

Kolkata, Dec 18 (UNI) Joining the Trinamool Congress, the West Bengal Congress today demanded a CBI inquiry into the mysterious death of a teenage girl in the land of Tata's small car project at Singur.

Pradesh Congress working president Pradip Bhattacharjee told newsmen here that though the state Congress supported Ms Banerjee's demand for a CBI inquiry, they, however, reserved its opinion on the Trinamool Congress-sponsored 48-hour bandh from December 21.

'' Truth will come out only in a CBI probe. We think that the administration is trying to suppress the facts, '' he said.

He wondered how such an incident took place when police were patrolling the area. Terming it a serious incident, hesaid real fact would not be unravelled without a CBI inquiry.

He alleged that police and administration were goofing up a story about her death and it should be stopped immediately.

Why the administration was not taking steps against the police forces, who were on duty at that time. Mr Bhattacharjee asked. The government was hiding the real fact, he alleged.

'' We have already sent a fax to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil demanding for the Centre's intervention in this regard, '' he said.

To a query on extending support to the bandh, he said the party was yet to take a decision and would take up the issue in a meeting.
