Biocon looking for new insurance partners

Mumbai, Dec 18 (UNI) After striking partnership with ICICI Lombard General Insurance, the country's biotechnology major, Biocon is now looking for a strategic partner in the field of distribution and marketing of the insurance products.

Talking to media on the sidelines of TiE summit here today, CMD of the company, Dr Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said ''In fact, we are loooking for those people who are already in the field of insurance sector for new partnerships so as to bring good insurance models to the people''. The idea was to help insured get good sum of money as reimbursement from the insurers whenever they fall prey to lethal diseases like cancer, she said.

Talking about the developments in her company, Dr Shaw said ''We are entering Phase II of clinical research now''. However, she said the government also has a role to play while addressing the issues relating to healthcare sector of the countrymen. She also informed that her company was in search of novel insurance models for the cancer drugs that have recently been developed by her firm.

It is to be noted that Biocon has launched BIOMAB-EGFR, a therapeutic monoclinical antibody-based drug for treating solid turmoils of epithetical origin, such as head and neck cancers.
