BALCO producing strategic alloys for defence organisations

New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) Privatised Public Sector Unit Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (BALCO) continues to produce and supply aluminium alloy rolled products in the form of sheets and plates to its customers including defence and space organisations, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Stating this, Minister of state for Mines T Subbarami Reddy said in a written reply that BALCO even after its disinvestment continued to produce much larger volumes of the strategic alloy for space and defence organisations which used them as raw materials for manufacturing components, assemblies or equipment to meet their specific needs.

Denying that the Government had given any chemical formula to the former public sector company, Dr Reddy said "BALCO with its in-house Research and Development (R&D) has been developing, producing and supplying alloys, the technical particulars of which are in public domain and available in various publications."
