Bail application of arms seizure accused rejected

Mumbai, Dec 18 (UNI) The Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court today rejected the bail application of Mohd Muzaffar Mohd Tanveer, one of the accused in the Aurangabad arms seizure case of May this year.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in a joint operation with the Aurangabad police on May 9 had arrested three terrorists including an activist of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) near the Ghrushneshwar temple at Verul village and seized 16 AK47, 4,000 live cartridges, 62 Magazines, 43 kg of RDX and 50 hand grenades during the search.

Interrogation of the arrested led to the arrest of thirteen more persons. Three of them were later dropped from all charges.

During September this year, ATS had filed a chargesheet against them.

MCOCA Judge M R Bhatkar rejected the bail application of the 24-year-old accused, after hearing both sides of the argument.

Public prosecutor opposed the bail application saying that the applicant was the cousin of accused No 1 in this case and he had taken the vehicle intentionally to transport arms keeping the vehicle owner in abeyance.
