AP Speaker assures debate on lands issue
Hyderabad, Dec 18 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Speaker K R Suresh Reddy today assured a delegation of peoples' organisations that a debate would be conducted on the lands issue in the Assembly.
Forty peoples organisations led by President of All India Peoples Union of Civil Liberties(PUCL) Kannabiram and State PUCL leader Prof Haragopal, today submitted a memorandum to the Speaker in his Chamber and urged him to submit the list of excess, assigned and Government lands which were in the clutches of the influential people.
While lauding the decision of the State Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for surrending his excess lands, they said others should follow his footsteps.
They urged the Speaker to conduct a debate on the lands issue and appoint a Committee for distribution of lands to the poor people.
The leaders also submitted a copy of the memorandum to Dr Reddy and other opposition parties, including the Telegu Desam Party(TDP) leader N Chandrababu Naidu.
The Chief Minister said the Government would take steps to take back the assigned and Government lands which were in the hands of the infleuntial people. The Government would implement the Land Reforms Act and distribute the lands to the poor and Dalits in the State, he added.
