21st Engineering Congress to be held at Guwahati from Dec 21

Guwahati, Dec 18 (UNI) Guwahati is all set to host 21st Engineering Congress from December 21.

The theme of the Congress is 'Challenge of Engineering for sustainable 10 per cent growth and beyond''.

The four-day long Engineering Congress is being organised by Assam State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) with an objective to provide a common platform for engineers, technocrats to exchanges their views and ideas and their implementations for nation building, Organising committee sources here said.

It said that about 2000 technocrats, engineering scholars from different parts of the country and abroad would take part in this mega event, for the first time of its kind in the region.

North East has no short of skilled manpower and this would be an unique opportunity for egineers, technocrats, planners and developers, funding agencies to express their views and to chart a road map for strategies to be adopted for the nation to sustain continued all round growth, it said.

It was estimated that to achieve the vision of India as a developed country by 2020, a double digit growth is required and this could be achieved through all round growth, including the manufacturing and agricultural sectors. The scenario thus poses multi-dimentional challenges to engineers, the sources said.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will inaugurate the congress at Pragjyoti-ITA Centre for performing Arts on December 22. Union Minister of state for heavy idustries and public enterprises Santosh Mohan Deb will grace the occation as chief guest.

The key note address will be delivered by Union minister of state for commerce Jairam Ramesh and would be followed by six memorial lectures by eminent speakers like Dr U S Rao, Chairman, PRL Council, ISRO-DOS, Dr Sankar Sen, former west bengal power minister and a technocrate, Vice-admiral S K K Krishnan,Mr Nam Ho, senior VP and chairman, International Cooperation of KPEA, Korea, Dr D N Buragohain, former director of Guwahati IIT, Lt Gen D P Sehgal, President, Institute of Electronics and Tel Engnr.
