REL completes 63.5% work for 600MW Yamuna Nagar power plant

New Delhi, Dec 17 (UNI) Reliance Energy's engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) arm has completed 63.5 per cent work on the 600 megawatt MW) greenfield thermal power plant coming up in Yamuna Nagar in a record time of 11 months.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, while reviewing the progress of the project, lauded the efforts and commitment by REL and Haryana Power Generation Limited (HPGL) for ''facing up the challenge'' of building the greenfield project in the ''shortest time anywhere in the country''.

Construction work on the 600 MW plant in Yamuna Nagar began in January this year and was completed 63.5 per cent including 275-metre tall chimney which was erected in a record time of two months, a company statement said.

''The project would cost Rs 2,400 crore, the first unit of which is scheduled to be completed by November 2007 and the second unit by February, 2008,'' Mr Hooda said.

He complimented REL and HPGL officials engaged in the project for completing the work within the prescribed period and urged them to keep it up in future so that the project could be completed before time.

The Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary of Power Ashok Lavasa who accompanied the minister also appreciated the efforts of 35 contractors and their 5,600 workers engaged by Reliance Energy.

The Managing Director of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigarm Jyoti Arora apprised the chief minister that the total generating capacity in the state was 4,039 MW and it would be raised up to 9,346 MW by 2010-11.
