Poachers active in Kanha Natl Park

Balaghat, MP, Dec 17 (UNI) Evidence of poachers' activity in the Kanha National Park came to light when foreign tourists gave forest officials a photograph of a tiger with a mobile trap restricting its leg.

The carnivore was subsequently liberated.

On Friday, the tourists observed the beast near the park's Mukki Gate. After officials were alerted, tourist movement was halted in the area, the animal traced, caged and the trap removed in an exercise lasting hours. The trap, which latches onto an animal's foot, slows movement and makes it easy prey.

The park's Deputy Director Shubhranjan Sen confirmed the incident.
