Leopard dies after falling into a well in Junagadh
Junagadh, Dec 17 (UNI) A leopard died when it fell into a deep well at Dron village in Una taluka here.
According to Amit Jethwa of Gir Nature Youth Club, the incident occurred yesterday night when the leopard strayed into a farmer, Purshottambhai Valjibhai's field is search of prey.
Incidentally, a three-year-old lion cub had fallen into a 35-foot deep well with 25 feet of water last week. The villagers called the forest deparment officials who rushed and saved the cub.
There are presently around 12,000 wells in the Gir forest area of Junagadh that do not have walls to prevent animals from falling into them. With sickening regularity animals have been falling into these open wells. Neither the revenue nor the forest department has forced the farmers to build walls around these death traps. Instead both have been passing the buck on other.
