Kot Bhalwal prisoners protest orders of jail authorities

Jammu, Dec 17 (UNI) Tension prevailed in high security Kot Bhalwal jail of Jammu and Kashmir as over 300 prisoners, including militants and foreign mercenaries, refused to go into their cells protesting against jail administration orders to ''improve'' discipline in the jail campus, official sources said today.

The new jail administration had issued strict orders yesterday to improve discipline inside the jail premises.

Meanwhile, jail superintendent Mirza Salim Beig sounded top bosses of the prisons department, CRPF and police.

DIG Jammu-Kathua range Niyaz Mehmood and additional SP Jammu Shakti Pathak, senior officers of the prisons department, CRPF and incharge security rushed to the jail.

The militants and foreign mercenaries, who have collected iron rods and a large quantity of stones and bricks, have been protesting the new orders.

Earlier, the prisoners spent a night outside their barracks on Friday protesting the move.
