Govt will strictly implement Land Reforms Act:CM
Hyderabad, Dec 17 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today reiterated that the State government would strictly implement the Land Reforms Act.
Addressing a press conference, along with PCC President K Keshava Rao, after participating in the PCC executive committee meeting at party headquarters 'Gandhi Bhavan,' he said the state government had already distrbuted 4.5 lakh acres of land to landless poor and dalits in the state and NABARD had provided Rs 500 crore for levelling the land for cultivation under Indira Prabha scheme.
He said the government had distributed 55 lakh acres of land, including agricultural land during the last 50 years. Of this, 25 per cent of the land was in possession of influential persons.
The government had taken up a new programme to protect the lands assigned to the poor, he said adding that ''this Government is for the poor people.'' He said the state government had taken up several irrigation projects, and other welfare measures like housing schemes under INDIRAMMA and for women empowerment under Indira Kranthi Padam to benefit poor people in the state.
