DoNER sanctions Rs 12 crore for NIT
Agartala, Dec 17 (UNI) A long standing uncertainty over the fund for development of National Institute of Technology (NIT), formerly known as Tripura engineering college, ended with the sanction of Rs 12 crore for its all round development.
Union Minister for the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Manishankar Aiyer informed about the Ministry's decision to the State MP Khagen Das in a letter last week.
The state government had sent a detailed project report to the respective Ministry depanding necessary funds for the development of the NIT in 2003. However, after three years of continuous pressure from the state government, the Union Ministry agreed to finally sanction the money.
The NIT will receive the fund under the NLPPR scheme with which an academic bhavan, laboratory, research centre and infrustructure will be developed in the institute.
