CPI to discuss Telangana issue reddy: Bardhan
Hyderabad, Dec 17 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary A B Bardhan today said the party would discuss the Telangana issue following the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) victory in the recent by-election to Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat.
Talking to newspersons here, he said, ''we will descuss the Telangana issues sympathetically and would take a decision only after consulting the state party leaders and national leaders. The TRS victory in byelection would not alone solve the Telangana issue.'' Stating that the CPI has been exerting pressure on the Centre and State Governments to prepare a special package for the backward Telangana region, Mr Bardhan said the CPI would also discuss the issue of Telangana development.
Pointing out that the Left parties have not opposed the formation of three smaller states during the NDA regime, the CPI leader said the Left parties would take a decision if the Centre introduced the bill for Telangana in Parliament.
Mr Bardhan lauded Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for surrendering 618 acres of assigned lands' to the government.
The said the CPI would expect others to follow the footsteps of Dr Reddy.
However, stating that the Chief Minister should furnish explanation on the assigned lands possessed by his family, he said, ''legal action should be taken against Dr Reddy, if he is found guilty,'' he added.
