Conductor dies, driver injured in bus fire incident

Porbandar, Dec 17 (UNI) The conductor of a Gujarat State Transport bus was killed and the driver was seriously injured when the bus suddenly caught fire at Rojivada village near Porbandar in the wee hours today.

According to police, the incident took place at around 0200 hrs and a battery short circuit seems to be the cause of the fire.

Earlier reports, said miscreants had torched the bus.

The conductor killed in the tragic incidentwas, identified as Rambhai, the police said. The seriously injured driver was taken to Porbandar hospital where his condition was stated to be 'serious'.

A police team rushed to the place.

Following the incident, ST employees of Porbandar and Mangrol went on a strike, which they called off later, ST sources here said.

This is a second such incident in less than a month. Earlier, on Nov 30, an irate mob had set ablaze a ST bus near Narsangh Takeri in the city in protest against the alleged desecration of the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in Kanpur.

Investigations are on in the matter.
