Combing oprerations achieves good results: DGP

Vijayawada, Dec 17 (UNI) The combing operations by special ''Ggreyhound'' squads in the forest areas to halt Maoists activities have shown good results, Andhra Pradesh Director-General of Police Swaranjit Sen said today.

Talking to newspersons after inaugurating the 'Balamitra' police station here, he said the handsome results were due to police taking effective steps, which included regular strategies track maoists' movements, combing operations, unearthing arms dumps in forest areas, among other things.

On transporting of firearms such as rocket launchers illegally by the transporters, the DGP said during the recent meeting of higher police officials at New Delhi, an appeal was made to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take necessary steps in this regard. The Surface Transport Ministry would look into the matter.

Stating that the Regional Forensic Science Laboratories (RFSL) in the state had stood first in the country for early clearing of clinical tests, Mr Sen said. Presently seven RFSL were functioning and two more would be set up soon.
