"Broken-hearted" prisoner immolates himself

Ranchi, Dec 17 (UNI) A prisoner in the Dumka Central jail today attempted to commit suicide by setting himsef on fire, police said.

Sanjay Kumar 'Sadhu', (21) of Dumka, who was in jail for marrying a minor girl, attempted to burn himself after he came to know that the girl for whom he was 'sacrificing', was released on bail after giving a statement against him.

Sanjay, along with the girl, had surrenderd before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Dumka on October 26. He was sent to jail and the girl to the remand home located in Deoghar.

According to sources, she was released on bail last month after admitting that she had been forcibly married to Sanjay.

At this development, Sanjay poured Kerosene on himself and set himself alight.

Doctors referred him to Pataliputra Medical College and Hospital at Dhanbad. He sustained 65 per cent burns.
