Bengal-Gujarat share honours on day one
Kolkata, Dec 17 (UNI) Bengal and Gujarat shared the honours on the opening day of the Ranji match here today as the visitors reached 276 but lost seven wickets in the process.
A valiant and gritty knock of 97 not out from Parthiv Patel saw Gujarat resurrect their innings as Bengal continued to chip away at the wickets throughout the day.
The wickets were equally distributed in all three sessions as the visitors kept prodding away and the hosts kept up the pressure.
It was a 108 run partnership between Patel and Thaker that saw Gujarat reach some respectability.
Thaker contributed a healthy 52 before he was snuffed up by Bose in his third spell of the day.
Patel remained unbeaten on 97 off 162 balls with 10 boundaries.
He looked solid in his approach and played with cautious aggression.
After Modi and Bilakhia gave Gujarat a reasonable start, the Bengal pacers struck back.
While Ranadeb Bose and A Dinda claimedtwo wickets each, Ahmid and Shukla claimed one each.
