'Vijay Diwas' observed in Pune
Pune, Dec 16 (UNI) Serving and retired defence personnel, civilian dignitaries, students and members of the public attended the solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial, Merwada Junction, Ghorpadi, here to pay homage to the brave sons of India who made the supreme sacrifice for the country.
A defence release here today said, the ceremony was organised by the Pune Sub Area to commemorate the victory over Pakistan and surrender of Pakistan Army in Bangladesh to the Indian Army on December 16, 1971, which is observed as ''Vijay Diwas''.
Against the back drop of slow march tune, ''Samman Guard'', Lt Gen H M Khanna (retd), placed the wreath at the War Memorial on behalf of ex-servicemen. Air Marshal T S Randhawa, VM, Commandant NDA did the same on behalf of all ranks of Air Force and Rear Admiral C S Patham, Dy Commandant NDA did it for the Navy, the release added.
