Two children die, 19 others fall sick after DPT dose

Arra, Dec 16 (UNI) At least two children lost their lives and 19 others fell sick today after they were administered doses of DPT at primary health centre(PHC) of Sahar block in Bhojpur district.

Sahar block Pramukh Adib Rizvi said that the victims were rushed to Sadar hospital when they complained about complications following administration of prescribed dose of DPT to them.

Two children--Rajan Kumari and Akash Kumar - died while 19 others were undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.

District magistrate Vishwanath Singh, however, refused to admit that the deaths of two children had occurred due to consumption of DPT, as suggested by prima facie symptoms.

''I have personally visited the hospital and inquired about the treatment being rendered to sick children admitted there'' Mr Singh added.

He said that reasons behind the unfortunate deaths and sickness of children would come to light only after a thorough probe into the issue.

An inquiry had since been ordered, he added.
