Hyderabad, Dec 16 (UNI) A mild tremor was experienced in the seismically active region of Ongole Town in Prakasham District today.

The tremor which occurred at 0849 hrs this morning measured approximately 3 to 3.5 on the Richter Scale at the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) and caused no damage.

Speaking to UNI here, NGRI Scientist Kousalya said 'its epicentre was about 13.7 Deg from Hyderabad and 15.7 degrees North and 80.2 Deg East approximately.' She said the seismically active region had experienced earthquakes during 1960 and the 70s.

''We are gathering information from other centres to ascertain the reasons for the tremor in the area,'' she added.

India Mateorological Department in New Delhi said an earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter Scale, shook coastal Andhra Pradesh around 0852 hrs today. It epicentred off the Southern Coast of the State.
