Modi announces new policy for women's welfare
Ahmedabad, Dec 16 (UNI) Even as Gujarat suffers the ignominy of an adverse sex ratio, Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said his government will bring in a new 'Nari Gaurav' Policy 2006, that will bestow equal rights to women and help improve their social status.
Chairing a meeting of the state coordination committee, Mr Modi said the policy will address issues concerning women like dowry, child marriages, sex selective abortions, rapes, property matters, etc.
He said necessary amendments will be made in the existing legislations to give shape to the policy.
''We must give women equal opportunities as men. They already have 30 percent advantage, but we plan to help them get 50 percent advantage by 2010,'' he said.
