Mercury drops to 8.5 degrees Celsius

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) After a slight warmth in the weather yesterday the cool Northwesterly winds today again led to a drop in minimum temperature to 8.5 degrees Celsius.

The fall in mercury notwithstanding, the bright Sunlight during the day brought some relief from the chill experienced earlier this week. In fact, the maximum temperature in the capital rose sharply to 23.2 degrees C from 20.8 degrees C yesterday.

Even the minimum temperature recorded today was one degree above normal.

The relief from chill is likely to remain during the next few days with the weatherman forecasting no significant change in night temperatures over plains of Northwest India during the next one or two days.

After the dense fog and icy winds of Tuesday and Wednesday, there has been an improvement in visibility levels and minimum temperatures since Thursday.

Bright sunlight led to a rise in minimum temperature to 8.5 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal, on Thursday and to 10.6 degrees C yesterday, three degees above normal.

Weathermen forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with slight fog expected in the morning. The minimum has been forecast at 9 Degree C.
