Fire destroys 100 huts

Chennai, Dec 16 (UNI) A major fire today destroyed about 100 huts in a fishermen hamlet at Indiranagar in Kasimedu area here this evening.

Fire service sources said, on information, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and put out the fire.

A major mishap was averted as a crude oil pipeline was passing in the adjacent area from Chennai Harbour to Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL), Manali.

The sources said though there was no loss of life, household articles, food grains, fishing nets and other belongings to the tune of several lakhs of rupees were damaged.
