Dismissed policeman arrested for extortion

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) The Delhi Police have arrested a dismissed policeman for indulging in extortion by impersonating as a police officer.

Raj Kumar, a former Delhi Police constable, who was dismissed from service in 1997 as a disciplinary action against him, was arrested yesterday from Vikas Marg in East Delhi following a complaint by Mr Gulam Sarvar that Raj Kumar, impersonating as police officer, was indulging in extortion from him under threat of implicating him for possession of drugs.

Raj Kumar was arrested when he, along with an associate, had come to recieve the extortion money from Mr Gulam Sarvar in police uniform.

An FIR has been registered against him under relevant sections of the IPC, the police said.

Fortynine-year-old Raj Kumar joined the Delhi Police on deputation as Cosntable in 1985 and was absorbed in the Delhi Police in 1990. When he was dismissed he was posted in III Battalion of Delhi Armed Police.
