BSP MP joins Samajwadi Party
Meerut, Dec 16 (UNI) The Bahujan Samaj Party today suffered a setback in Uttar Pradesh as its Member of Parliament from Meerut Shahid Akhlaq, who had won the seat on a BSP ticket, formally joined the Samajwadi Party in the presence of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Addressing a public meeting here after laying the foundation stones for a number of projects worth around Rs 107 crore, Mr Yadav said BSP supremo Mayawati's reported statement calling all Muslims fundamentalist had hurt the community.
He said such statements only showed Ms Mayawati's insensivity to the minorities.
Mr Akhlaq along with his brother Rashid joined the Samajwadi Party.
