41 BSF personnel commit suicide this year : Mitra
Jammu, Dec 16 (UNI) Border Security Force (BSF) Director General A K Mitra today said the stress level among force personnel has been increasing and 41 jawans committed suicide this year in comparison to 33 last year.
Director General, addressing mediapersons after comprehensive tour to the frontier areas of the Jammu region, said the BSF personnel are deployed in remote and difficult areas where many a time basic amenities are not available and these factors cause stress among them.
''In some remote areas due to lack of basic telecom network, personnel are not able to speak to their families and this loneliness further aggravates to the stress intensifying to the levels of suicides and fragging,'' he said.
To reduce the causes of stress among the force personnel, the DG proposed appointment of a counsellor in every battalion.
