US company to invest in BT sector in HP

Shimla, Dec 15 (UNI) The multifaceted nano-biotechnology project of United States has submitted its proposal to the Himachal Pradesh government for investing in the bio-technology sector for manufacturing equipments.

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Nanobiosim Anita Goel, heading a high level delegation to the country, told State Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, during her meeting with him here.

The chief minister, while welcoming the investment proposal, said the state was adopting open door policy for attracting foreign investment, especially in information technology, bio-technology and education.

He said the state had most suitable conditions for setting up of bio-technology units due to its geographical positioning, varied climatic conditions had the potential of growing the rare species of medicinal herbs.

A recent study had revealed that some herbs mentioned in the ancient scriptures of Veda and Purana were also located in the higher altitudes of the state and there were many more which required proper identification by the expert bodies, he said.

Mr Singh said the state had 12 per cent of the total bio-technology potential of the country which was yet to be harnessed for the bonafide and optimum utilisation for diagnostic and healthcare programmes.

The agro-climatic conditions were most conducive for pollution free manufacturing of the drugs and other equipments, he said.
