ULFA urged to withdraw its boycott call to sportspersons
Guwahati, Dec 15 (UNI) The Asom Assembly today passed a unanimous resolution, calling upon the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to withdraw its call for sportspersons to stay away from the 33rd National Games to be held here from February 9 to 18 next year.
In a resolution, supported by Legislators belonging to all political parties in the state, termed the ULFA boycott call against the National Games as very unfortunate for the state as well as the people of Asom and hence called upon the militant organisation to consider withdrawing its call for boycott of the mega sports event.
Moving the resolution in the House during Zero Hour, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bharat Chandra Narah stated that the National Games had facilitated construction of several world class sports infrastructure for the future generation of sportspersons in the state besides providing an opportunity to the people to hog the limelight as host to the most prestigious sports event of the country.
The resolution stated that preparation for holding National Games was almost complete and it was unfortunate that the ULFA chose to call for boycott of the Games at this juncture.
