Three militants among four people killed in Jammu
Jammu, Dec 12 (UNI) Three militants, including a top commander of Pakistan-based Al-Badr outfit and a 24-year-old girl were killed in Jammu region since last night, official sources today said.
A joint party of 4 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and police launched a search operation at Thanalla area in Doda district and gunned down two local Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants Shahid Hussain and Abdul Hafiz, Senior Superintendent of Police Manohar Singh told UNI.
A .303 rifle, one sniper rifle, a magazine, live rounds and a large quantity of incriminating material were recovered from the site, he added.
Earlier, troops of 38 RR eliminated an Al-Badr militant in bordering district of Rajouri, who had killed a local girl last night.
According to an army spokesman, Al-Badr militant Ishtiyaq entered the house of one Mohammad Mistry Khan at chandial village in Bhimber Gali area and attempted to rape his daughter Gulshan Bano and shot her dead as she resisted.
Hearing the gun shot, angry villagers ran to the spot and tried to disarm Ishtiyaq, who sought refuge in the house of an over ground worker (OGW) of the militants.
However, they also informed the nearby 38 RR battalion, which immediately swung into action.
During the cordon and search operation in the area, the militant was shot dead by the troops after an encounter, the spokesman added.
An AK-56 rifle, an AK magazine, a pistol, a radio set and a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.
