Sachar committee report to improve status of minorities: Digvijay

Tikamgarh, MP, Dec 15 (UNI) Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh today thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for allowing tabling of the Sachar committee report on the status of minorities in the country.

Mr Singh, while addressing 'kisan sammelan' here, said the recommendations of the Sachar committee, if implemented, would go a long way in improving the status of minorities.

He said the condition of farmers and labourers had deteriorated during the rule of the BJP Government. Peasants were forced to buy fertilisers at double prices, while power was available for merely 4-5 hours. Foodgrains at ration shops were being black-marketed.

The Congress leader alleged that situation of 'bijli (power)', 'sadak (road)' and 'pani (water)' -- on which the BJP came to power -- was same.

Congress General Secretary V Narayan Sami said Dalits, tribals, poor, farmers and labourers were being harassed in the BJP rule. He alleged that central schemes were being misused by the state government.

Congress spokesperson Satyavrat Chaturvedi said problems being faced by public had grown in the past three years of BJP rule. He said he would make Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi aware about drought situation in Bundelkhand region.

Other Congress leaders also addressed the gathering.
