Punjab Police to have posts reserved for sportspersons
Chandigarh, Dec 15 (UNI) To uplift sports in the state, the Punjab government has approved the creation of 295 posts in the state Police Department for the sportspersons.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the state Cabinet here today. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.
The decision has been taken as per recommendations of a committee constituted by the Chief Minister.
The committee, in its recommendation, noted that the Punjab Police had been most instrumental in the development and growth of sports in the state as well as national and international level.
On the bases of these observations, the committee suggested that there should be some institutionalised mechanism to reward outstanding sportspersons on the basis of their performance and also to provide an incentive to those who have potential to perform.
