President to inaugurate science museum on December 19
Kochi, Dec 15 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam' will inaugurate a Science and Technology Museum for the student community here on December 19, during his two-day visit to the state.
Addressing mediapersons here today, District Collector Mohammed Hanish said the museum was constructed on the initiative of Rajya Sabha member Dr Kasturirangan at Sree Rama Varma School.
The three-storied museum houses exhibits from ISRO, Southern Naval Command, Cochin Ship Yard and VSSC.
It also has a conference hall with a satellite interactive terminal, plasma TV, digital cameras and LCD projector. A science park sponsored by BPCL Kochi Refinery with scientific gadgets helps students to learn 'science with fun', Mr Hanish said.
He said a monitering committee, under his stewardship, comprising the school alumni, teachers and other school authorities would meet once in a month to gauge the working of the museum.
Dr Kasturirangan, an alumni of the school, has contributed Rs 87 lakh for the museum and spared Rs 25 lakh to repair and beautify the school which was established in 1885.
