Plea seeking cancellation of land allotment to Tata rejected

New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed a PIL seeking cancellation of allotment of land to the Tata group by the West Bengal government in Singur.

A Bench comprising Justices B N Aggarwal and P P Naolekar told petitioner Jaideep Mukherjee to approach the proper forum which is the Calcutta High Court.

The petitioner withdrew his petition after the court order.

The petition was mentioned today for an urgent hearing in view of the ongoing agitation in Singur in which Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is sitting on a fast unto death in protest against the forcible aquisition of farmers' land for giving it to Tata group of companies for setting up Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The court also declined to stay the allotment of over 1000 acres of land to the Tatas.
