New University in Punjab to look after rural education

Chandigarh, Dec 15 (UNI) The Punjab government has approved the establishment of Guru Gobind Singh University Guru Kashi at Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district specifically for the advancement and development of higher education for rural students.

The aim behind setting up of this unversity is to bridge the education gap between rural and urban areas and for the promotion of higher education and research.

This decision was taken in a meeting of the state Cabinet held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

The Cabinet also approved the recruitment of 2026 Elementary Teachers Training (ETT) teachers in rural primary schools transferred to Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state. Appproval was granted to recruit 1625 ETT/BEd teachers in rural primary schools transferred to various Zila Parishads.

The meeting also approved the revival and filling up of 629 direct recruitment vacancies of classical and vernacular cadres in Directorate of Secondary Education.

The Cabinet also approved the grant of family pension to the employees absorbed in Public Sector Undertakings.
