Netradhama to host Phaco festival for cataract surgeons

Bangalore, Dec 15 (UNI) More than 400 eye specialists from all parts of the country would take part in the 'Phaco Festival' to enhance their skills, here on Sunday.

Briefing reproters about the festival here last night, Mr Sri Ganesh, Chairman of Netradhama, a city-based eye hospital which is organising the event, said eminent ophthalmologists would perform live Phacoemulsification surgeries using the latest Phacoemulsifier with ICE technology.

Vision disorders affected more than 26 million people in the country, of which cataract accounted for 60 per cent. Though surgery for cataract blindness was undergoing a rapid change with four million undergoing the operation every year, a low ophthalmic surgeon to population ratio of 1:1.07 lakh was causing increasing number of blindness in the country, he said.
