TN: Manian to receive Bharatiar award

Chennai, Dec 15: The Tamil Nadu government has selected veteran Congress leader and literary exponent ''Tamizharuvi'' Manian for this year's 'Bharathiar Award.' Mr Manian has been selected for the award for his exponency in Tamil language and oratorical skill. The award carried Rs One lakh cash and one soverign Gold medal, an official release here said.

Mr Manaian, who had carved a name for himself in the political and literary arenas, was hailed by late Chief Minister K Kamaraj as ''Tamizharuvi'' for his deep knowledge in Tamil.

Mr Manian, right from his student days, was associated with Kamaraj.

Author of many books, including ''Oorukku Nalladhu Seivan'' and ''Kamban Kattum Indirasithan,'' Mr Manian also earned the goodwill of late Congress leader G K Moopanar for his deep knowledge in Tamil, the release added.
