IT sleuths raid Banarasi saree merchant's property

Varanasi, Dec 15 (UNI) Income Tax department sleuths raided the house and business premises of a leading Banarasi saree merchant at separate places here today.

Official sources said that teams of income tax department officials raided the house of a leading Banarasi Saree merchant in the Bhelupur locality here this morning.

Later, the IT officials raided the multi-storeyed shop of the merchant in the Thatheri Bazaar area and his factory in the Manduadih area.

While, the IT department sleuths remained tight-lipped about the entire exercise, the department sources said that an undisclosed amount of cash, jewellery, besides documents pertaining to 'benami' property have been seized during the raid.
