Health insurance scheme soon for K'taka Govt school staff
Bangalore, Dec 15 (UNI) The Karnataka Government is planning to introduce a health insurance scheme for teaching and non-teaching staff in Government schools in the State, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti disclosed today.
Talking to reporters here, he said the modalities of fixing the monthly premium and its payment would be worked out soon for about two lakh staff of Government schools. The scheme would be applied for a family of maximum four members and would be 100 per cent cashless. The scheme would also cover Government aided schools through a network of 300 hospitals in the State, he added.
Mr Horatti said the Government proposed to cover parents too in the second phase. The scheme would also provide a discount of up to 20 per cent for treatment as an outpatient in these hospitals.
West Bengal was also planning to introduce a scheme on these lines, he added.
The Minister said all arrangements have been made for introducing English as a subject from first to fourth standard in Kannada-medium schools from the next acedemic year. The syllabus would be common for all the four standards initially and there would be no exams.
