Engineer flees with bribe money
Jagdalpur, Dec 15 (UNI) An Assistant Engineer of the Rural Engineering department R K Sharma fled after taking bribe from a contractor and later dumped the money in the bushes to give a slip to the chasing vigilance squad.
The incident took place at Kondagaon in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh last night when the anti-corruption bureau raided the residence of Executive Engineer Mr Sharma, who sought bribe for clearing bills.
The bureau officials had recovered Rs 6 lakh in cash from the house of the EE and further action was in progress, Bureau SP Purushottam Gautam said.
The Bureau had laid a trap after a complaint was lodged by the contractor M K Gandhi. When the contractor offered the money to the EE the latter suggested that it should be handed over to the Sub-Divisional Officer (Assistant Engineer) M M Shah, who was present there.
As soon as the bureau officials arrived at the location, the SDO fled in a car and made a vain bid to crush the bureau officials with his vehicle. At Bolbala village, 20 Km away, the money was dumped in bushes and the Bureau officials recovered it. The SDO is still absconding, police added.
