CPM demands HP University VC and COE's arrest in CPMT

Hamirpur, Dec 15 (UNI) Demanding HP University Vice Chancellor and former University Controller of Examination's (COE) arrest for their role in the Combined Pre Medical Test (CPMT) scam, the state unit of the CPM today said the probe would be incomplete without their roles being investigated.

''The investigations will be incomplete without thoroughly probing their role in the scam,'' party leaders Kashmir Singh Tahkur and Tikender Singh Panwar said at a joint press conference here.

They said had the HP High court not intervened in the issue, the culprits would been allotted a seat in the medical colleges of the state at the expense of meritorious students.

The police was not taking any action against the former COE due to his ''political links'' with the Congress leaders who were involved in the scam, they alleged.

The arrest of the relatives of two senior Congress leaders was proof of the state government's role in the paper scam, they said.

The CPM leaders said instead of arresting people involved in the scam, the state police and the university authorities were harassing the student activists who had helped in bringing the scam to light.

The CPMT examinations held under the supervision of the former University CEO during the last three years should also be probed to ascertain his role in leaking the papers, Mr Singh and Mr Panward added.
