BJP serves notice for discussion on Indo-US Nuclear deal
New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) Alleging that the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal, as passed by the US Congress, was against India's interests, the BJP has sought a discussion on the issue in the Lok Sabha under rule 184 which entails voting.
BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said the party had expressed its views against the deal which undermined the efforts of Indian nuclear scientists who had achieved several breakthroughs despite sanctions by the US and other developed nuclear nations.
The party would not only discuss but would seek a vote on the Bill but would put forth a demand that the reply be given by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself, Mr Malhotra said.
''The voting will expose the hollowness of the Left Parties who are supporting the government but still were opposed to the the nuclear deal,'' he added.
