UTUC urges for making employment a constitutional right

Kolkata, Dec 14 (UNI) SUCI's labour wing United Trade Union Centre (UTUC) today said today's nationwide general strike should have included providing constitutional right to employment inits charter of demands.

The UTUC also demanded scraping the contributory new pension scheme for the government employees.

In a statement here, All India UTUC general secretary Sankar Saha said one day's general strike cannot be sufficient to reverse the UPA government's ''anti-labour'' policies and urged upon the working class to forge unity for a prolonged and protracted movement to achieve their demands.

''We are congratulating the people for participating in the today's general strike,'' Mr Saha said.

He claimed that barring a few concerns attendance in the IT sector was below 50 per cent today.
