Training on RAMIS in Tiruchirapalli
Tiruchirapalli, Dec 14 (UNI) An 11-day end-user training on 'Rural Area Development Monitoring and Information System' (RAMIS), a Geographic Information System (GIS) Package for Pudukkottai District, began here today.
The training is jointly organised by the Department of Geology, Bharathidasan University (BU) and Department of Futures Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU).
In his presidential address, BU Vice Chancellor C Thanga Muthu said the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and IT, Government of India sponsored Rs 68.50 lakh for the project and training programme.
It would help to completely explore the district which has a lot of geographical features, he hoped.
Stating that this unique Inter-University Project is a forerunner among other ongoing projects in the country, he said it would help monitoring rural area development and information system.
In his address, MKU Professor and Principal Investigator, Department of Futures Studies A Sundaram, who is executing the project, said over 150 officials from various government departments in Pudukkottai would be given training during the programme.
