Chandigarh, Dec 14 (UNI) The strike call given by certain trade unions failed to make any impact in Haryana as all essential services remained functional and the day passed off peacefully without any untoward incident in the state, an official said today.

Chief Secretary Prem Prashant who reviewed the situation in the state here this evening, complimented the government officials especially the transport and power utilities for not resorting to strike.

He said that although special arrangements were made to maintain essential transport services, a majority of employees of Haryana Roadways performed their duties as usual and the government appreciated their devotion to duty and public spirited behaviour.

Meanwhile, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Transport Raminder Jakhu said that the impact of the strike in the state remained partial. A majority of buses operated without any hindrance in the dense transport corridors in the National Capital Region and along the national highways.

He said that the strike against privatisation had little relevance as for as the state transport department was concerned. He said that it has already been clarified to the representatives of the employees that there was no move to privatise Haryana Roadways.

The Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Power, Ashok Lavasa said that the power supply was not interrupted by the employees of the power utilities as the strike call failed to evoke any response in the power sector. However, the power utilities had made adequate arrangements to meet any eventuality.

The Commissioner and Secretary, Public Health, Dalip Singh said that the water supply was normal throughout the state and no attempt of sabotage was reported.
